My wife was telling me that her colleague was saying lip services is a common practice among the business people and in any office politics. My wife then added that nowadays, lip service is not enough, you need also – face service – showing fake expression to be ’socially correct’.
Although I agree with my wife and colleague, but it saddens me that our world today is filled with so much fakeness, there is lack of real sincerity to be just who you want to be. If you look at reality shows like The Bachelor, America’s Next Top Model etc there is a lot of pretention.
Even in branding is the same, so many people out there are just proposing a ‘face service’ and ‘lip service’ to build a brand. Of course branding requires changeand also development in areas where the brand is poor at, but the thing is to actually do it and don’t just talk about it. Companies are not willing to invest to create real authentic brand compare to pay for face and lip service which is common and easier. Look at all the advertising, promises and picture they paint about the brand – how much of that is true and deliverable.
Being a brand consultant myself too, I find it disheartening when you find other ‘brand consultants’ promising the moon and sun to clients just to secure the contract. I personally think companies who hire these type of consultants will end up a loser at the end of the day.
I am for being real, being a person than just a fake face on this little time we had on earth, the same is my thought to building an authentic brand.
